Martial Arts Festival 2011, familiar known as MAF 2011 will be organized by Rakan Wajadiri through Sekretariat Rakan Muda UTP (SRMUTP) and support of Universiti Teknologi Petronas on the 1st and 2nd of October 2011 and will be held at Stadium Indera Mulia, Perak.
By collaboration with Persatuan Silat Gayong Serantau Malaysia UTP (PSGSMUTP), Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Malaysia UTP (PSSCMUTP), Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Hanafi UTP (PSSCHUTP), Pencak Silat UTP, UTP Taekwondo Club, Shito -Ryu Karate Do Club and Muay-Thai Club, the main objectives of this festival is to gather all martial arts organization inside UTP and around Perak under one roof to share the comprehension about their disciplines. Besides, they will be given a chance to promote the uniqueness of their own martial arts. This will build a strong bond between them in achieving the mission of integration. Besides also, this aims to inculcate awareness on self defends among public through events in the festival.
There will be a lot of programs throughout this event. The first pre-event of MAF 2011 is Martial Art Outreach that will be held in nearby school. This pre-event is planned to attract young generations to involve in martial arts. This will involve collaboration of martial art clubs in UTP to work together to give the school students a talk about the importance of self-defense and also a simple demonstration on self-defense.
For the main event of Martial Art Festival 2011, on the first and second day, there will be exhibitions. This exhibition will include all the martial arts club and societies in UTP and also some invited martial art clubs and associations outside of UTP. This exhibition will be held for two days together with some booths opened for our sponsors and stallers. The exhibition will also involve some invited people who are involved in the making of traditional weapons such as Keris, spears and some modern weapons exhibitors such as Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM) and Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM). Also, starting from the first day, there will be a trial to break the Malaysia’s Book of Record which is the highest number of punches to be done in 24 hours straight non-stop. The trial will be the first sub-event to be conducted during the festival and it is scheduled to end 24 hours after it started which is on the second day. This will be done on collaboration and consultation with the Malaysia’s Book of Record itself. The second slot for the first day will be Tai-Chi class that will be open for public. This will requires the service by a professional Tai-Chi conductor. Next sub-event will be a seminar conducted by a guest speaker who will demonstrate a demonstration about the application of martial art during critical situation in real life.
One of the main sub- events of the festival is to organize a Silat Seni tournament that will involve the participation from selected schools around Perak. This will also be held during the first day after seminar. The last sub-event for the evening will be martial art demonstration from all martial arts clubs in UTP. Every club will be given a slot to show their skills.
On the second day, there will be a marathon that involves primary schools students from primary schools around Ipoh. This is done to promote a healthy life style that exist when one learn martial arts. Also, on the second day, there will be an aerobic slot that also will be open to public. Then, we will have kids fun zone and in the evening there will be a presentation of Gerak Gempur from Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM).
The officiating ceremony will commence on the first night. During that night, there will be a mixed performance from invited guest martial arts clubs outside of UTP. There will also be a cultural show during that night such as Dikir Barat. The closing ceremony will be on the last night of Martial Art Festival 2011. During that night, there will be a special performance of dikir barat team from Besut, Terengganu. The ceremony will then followed by a Rhythmic Martial Arts Demonstration by all UTP Martial Arts Clubs where they will perform their own 21 martial steps concurrently followed by the performance from Tronoh Theater Shop (TTS). The ceremony will end by the performance from martial art team from Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM).
From this festival, we hope that MAF 2011 will be the best event in developing unity in all martial clubs throughout all events conducted as well creating self defends awareness environment especially in UTP through all activities conducted. Lastly, this Martial Arts Festival 2011 will become a platform to build the bridge between UTP and outside communities as well as bringing up the name of UTP as one of the institutes that can produce well rounded students who are creative and innovative in all aspects whether in academics or in co-curricular activities such as martial art.
